Daniela and Goran attended the GRC conference “Chemistry and Biology of Peptides” in Oxnard (CA) where they presented the experimental (Daniela) and computational (Goran) overviews of the DeShPet project, showcasing the main results. It was a great meeting focused on networking and sharing ideas with friends and new potential collaborators and a great opportunity to enjoy California.
6th International PhD Conference – Digitalization in Science and Society
Marko Babić attended the 6th International PhD Conference – Digitalization in Science and Society, held in Ljubljana (Slovenia) where he presented a poster presentation about his experience with writing a paper using open-access databases and software. Marko provided arguments for science digitalization using his research as an example. The participation at the conference was supported by the Doctoral School at the University of Rijeka.
New Journal Paper
Check out our new paper Esterase Sequence Composition Patterns for the Identification of Catalytic Triad Microenvironment Motifs published in Journal of Chemical Information and Modeling (IF 6.162) in collaboration with Silvia Marchesan where we look for inspiration and patterns in esterases. Congrats Marko Babić on your first paper! This paper is part of the special issue “Advancing Women in Chemistry”.
Erik and Marko attended the AI in Chemistry conference in Cambridge
At the 5th RSC-BMCS / RSC-CICAG Artificial Intelligence in Chemistry, Marko presented his poster entitled Genetic Algorithm-enhanced Parallel Chemical Space Exploration Utilising Multiple Peptide Libraries while Erik was selected to give a pitch talk about his work entitled Transfer Learning for Improved Peptide Activity Prediction on Small Dataset.
DeShPet lab attended the EPS2022 in Sitges
Daniela, Patrizia, Goran, Toni and Ana presented their research at the 36th European Peptide Symposium and 12th International Peptide Symposium in Sitges. Great conference, amaizing research and discussions with people from all over the world. Patrizia won the poster prize (3rd best poster) on a conference with more than 500 posters and over 750 participants. Well done!

Daniela participated in the review article by Pina lab, entitled Catalytic Peptides – Simplicity and Functionality published in Israel Journal of Chemistry (IF 3.333).
SusTrainable 2022 Summer School @ Riteh
SusTrainable 2022 Summer School part of the Erasmus+ project Promoting Sustainability as a Fundamental Driver in Software development Training and Education (local coordinator: G. Mauša, grant no. 2020-1-PT01-KA203-078646) connects 10 european universities on the topic of sustainable software development. 70 participants from Portugal, Netherlands, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Croatia participated to the event.
Goran was part of the Program Commette while Daniela, Erik and Marko were part of the organizing comitee. Goran, Marko and Erik also presented their work on Applying Soft Computing for Sustainability.
Patrizia presented a poster at the 17th Naples Workshohp on Bioactive Peptides
Patrizia traveled to Naples to present her work. Her trip was supported by the PhD grant “Prometej” from the University of Rijeka Foundation.
